Fourth Grade Coat Drive - WE CARE

Dear Fourth Grade Families,

Our class has been talking about caring and kindness this month. We will be presenting to the school at this month’s Character Education Assembly later this week all about caring. We would like to put our talk and ideas into ACTION. We have decided we want to participate in the Burlington Factory Coat Drive because... “brrrrrr”... it’s getting cold outside!

We ask that you scour your closets/basements/boxes for jackets and coats that you all may no longer need or do not want and send them in to our classroom by this Wednesday, December 18th (the same day as our Tradition Celebration). I will then deliver them all to the Burlington Coat Factory in Flemington that afternoon! I have a few that I will do a quick wash cycle on and then am happy to donate. The students are really hoping we can make a small but important impact.

If you have any questions, please ask. And thank you so much for your support during this holiday season and always!

Sincerely,

Suzanne Lawn and the Fourth Graders

Really cool event

I wanted to share this event with you all. If you have never been, it is really cool. They run it on Christmas Day but we went to the dress rehearsal which, to me, was just like the real thing. We will be covering this in Social Studies this winter!

Witness the event that saved
the Revolution!

Each December, thousands gather on the banks of the Delaware River to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s daring river crossing.

During the event, hundreds of reenactors listen to an inspiring speech by General Washington and then row across the river in replica Durham boats.

The public has two opportunities to witness the crossing at Washington Crossing Historic Park.

First Crossing: Sunday, December 8

The First Crossing takes place in the Historic Village near the park Visitor Center from 10 AM to 4 PM.

In addition to the crossing reenactment* at 1 PM, activities and demonstrations in the Historic Village offer a full day of fun and learning.

During this event, you'll get to...

  • See how soldiers drilled to stay battle-ready
  • Listen to the park's fife and drum corps perform
  • Learn how cannons were loaded and fired
  • Watch blacksmiths demonstrate their craft
  • Browse the wares of colonial craftspeople
  • Try your hand at colonial-era games
  • And much more!
Admission to the First Crossing is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 5-11, free for children younger than 5. Proceeds help us offer the Christmas Day crossing for free.

*The crossing is identical to what we do Christmas Day. It's not a practice run!

Christmas Day Crossing

The 67th annual Christmas Day crossing will be held from noon to 3 PM on December 25.

We recommend arriving before noon to get a good place on the viewing line.

Admission is free, thanks to proceeds from the First Crossing on December 8.

Additional Details

Washington Crossing Historic Park is located at the intersection of Routes 532 and 32 (River Road) in Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania. Use the following address in GPS: 1112 River Road, Washington Crossing, PA 18977.

Parking is free and will be clearly marked for both events.

River crossings are contingent upon safe conditions for participants. However, if conditions do not allow for crossing, all ceremonies, speeches and commemorative activities will still occur.

Individuals with disabilities who need special assistance or accommodations to attend should call the Washington Crossing Historic Park Visitor Center at 215-493-4076.

How can we help?

If you have any questions about the crossing reenactments, please call Washington Crossing Historic Park at 215-493-4076 or reply to this email.
